Can You Eat Healthy On a Budget?

Mar 07, 2021

Does Healthy Gut Bacteria Lead to Weight Loss?

We’ve all tried to stick to a healthy diet. We hit the supermarket and run up and down the aisles looking for the healthiest ingredients. But that moment only lasts until we’re confronted with the expensiveness of it all.

We’ve heard it over and over again: a healthy diet comes with hefty price tags, and besides, why go for a nutritious, wholesome salad when you can get a hamburger for much less?

The Necessity of A Healthy Diet
Following a healthy diet is essential for our health and wellbeing. It allows our bodies to get all the important nutrients it needs to stay lean and healthy. It also prevents us from developing long-term health conditions.

Unfortunately, popular media portrays sticking to a healthy diet as a depressing, vicious act that drains us, but that simply isn’t the case. Following a healthy diet also means being able to eat the flavors and meals you like and enjoy treats every now and then when you need that extra energy and nutrition.

You’ve probably noticed that supermarkets and restaurants aren’t helping out with that either. Because they're the result of mass production, processed and high-fat foods are usually served cheap.
But do not despair; eating healthy doesn’t need to come with a hefty price tag. Here are some helpful tips to get you started!

Search Around for Alternatives
Shopping from the supermarket that’s a few meters away from home looks ideal, but trying out a new supermarket may prove to be more beneficial, especially when it comes to healthy foods. At times, some shops provide more offers and discounts on these types of foods. How would you know about them if you’ve never checked them out?
Additionally, looking for your products online may reel in great results. Often, online shops offer amazing discounts on a wide range of healthy foods!

Cook Your Meals & Keep Some for Later
Instead of going out for that branded meal, why don’t you get your own ingredients and gain control of your food? Most times, cooking your own meals using three ingredients is much more frugal than buying a wholesome meal from a restaurant.
That being said, cooking your own meals also gives you the capacity to cook in bulk. Instead of putting in ingredients for one serving, how about going for three? That way, you’re making sure that you have frozen meals for later!

Shop Local
You’ve probably heard this countless times before, but shopping local might be the best thing you can go for! Aside from having alternatives for the same imported products at cheaper prices, shopping local benefits you and the whole ecosystem environmentally and economically as it:

-has a reduced environmental impact since it contributes less to congestion, habitat loss, and pollution compared to non-local businesses.
-offers you better customer service since locally owned businesses are part of your community.
-provides you with fresh, seasonal produce, and sometimes organic alternatives.
-gives you the opportunity to support local farmers, workers, and businesses.
-allows you to invest in local businesses that are the largest employers on a national scale, meaning you’re helping the community thrive!
